Transfer Impact Assessments

There is a heightened concern for exposing personal information from the EU to other jurisdictions. Exporting organizations are requiring importers to provide enhanced assurances for the protection of the data. One method is the use of a Transfer Impact Assessment (TIA).

A TIA is the analysis, conducted by a data controller or a processor, of the risks and implications to the privacy of personal data that will be transferred to a third country.

The TIA considers whether the laws of the third country would permit government agencies access to the personal data and possible mitigations for any identified risks.
